Jewelry supplies have been a specialty of DaMa since it was established.
DaMa...25 Years Later
Automation, creativity, productivity, and superior customer service are all hallmarks of DaMa's longevity. In today's fashion jewelry industry, having a good product is simply not enough. DaMa's first presses stamped out 200 clutches per minute - that was not enough. Today's presses stamp out 4,500 clutches per minute!
DaMa Jewelry Technology Inc. was established in 1977 as a result of a business relationship formed between Marcos Fountoulakis, owner of DaMa Jewelry, and Domenic Melani, owner of Teloni Tool. Then in 1981, the two combined their areas of expertise - Meloni in manufacturing and Fountoulakis in Sales and Marketing - to create a company which has grown to be a leading producer of high quality jewelry components for jewelry manufacturers worldwide.
DaMa has heavily invested throughout the years in new automation that enabled them to triple the unit volume produced while maintaining the same workforce. The increased productivity was not just limited to the manufacturing area. Each year, the entire operation is analyzed to improve productivity in the sales and office area as well. Further investments have been made in upgrading all in - house technology, computer training, and processes in order to work more effectively and efficiently without any increase in labor charges. In order to stay close to the customer, Fountoulakis travels to Asia frequently and DaMa's China office maintains inventory so customers can receive immediate delivery.
Research and development have always been a huge line item in the DaMa budget. The word DaMa used to be synonomous with clutches. Although this is still the bread and butter of the operation, DaMa has continued to expand and diversify it's component line to fulfill the demands of its customers. In the year 2000, DaMa developed a marketing campaign that introduced other products to its customers on a monthly basis. These promotions emphasize the theme of DaMa being a total component supplier.
This year, DaMa has had great success with its Sterling Silver clutches. DaMa promotes a specific product, yet emphasizes DaMa as a Total Component Supplier.
DaMa's customer service representatives, covering all the major markets of the world, are employed at the home office in Johnston, Rhode Island. All major Asian languages including Mandarin, Cantonese, Thai, and Malay as well as all the major European languages including Spanish and Portuguese, are spoken by DaMa's customer service representatives and sales organization both here and abroad.
Competitive pricing and meeting deliver dates are a given, and DaMa utilizes all the pre-requisites of doing international business, i.e., maintaining a website, installing cable lines for faster overseas communication, mailing catalogues, sending pictures and samples digitally, - but Fountoulakis emphasizes that nothing replaces the relationship with the customer!
